The time is nearly upon us – the most exciting night of the year, filled with glitz, glamour, and a shared celebration of some of the world’s best short films. The 2025 edition of the VFF Awards is just two weeks away, and we’ve got an unforgettable show lined up.

Capping off an incredible three days of student and international short film screenings, the VFF Awards serves as the grand finale of VFF’s annual short film festival. It’s a night where filmmakers, sponsors, guests, and the entire Vaughan community come together to celebrate a shared passion for cinema and storytelling. More than just a closing ceremony, it’s a night to recognize excellence, foster creative connections, and honour the power of independent film.

A fan-favourite for its black-tie formal setting, the VFF Awards is the perfect occasion to get dressed to the nines, enjoy an exquisite plated dinner, and immerse yourself in the electrifying atmosphere of the independent film world. Whether it’s your first time attending or you're a seasoned VFF guest, this year promises new surprises—including a brand-new award category dedicated to Canadian filmmaking, spotlighting the amazing talent from across the country.

Announced at this year’s VFF Spring Launch were the nominees across five competitive short film award categories Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Performance, Best Canadian Film and Best Film. Plus, we will be selecting this year's Student Film Finalist where finalists will be revealed on June 16 at the 2025 Student Screening!
